Halloween

Pumpkin carving time with Daddy! Laney loved it, but protestd to putting her hand down in the pumpkin. Not having it!

No telling what little Miss Personality is saying here. She has a sneaky look on her face. She's so funny these days with her facial expressions. I just love her!

Mimi and Laney--there's another great face!

Mom and I loaded up the butterflies and headed out to North Main, the historic district in Wake Forest. Unfortunately Hugh had to work. It wasn't the same without him and he was greatly missed.
North Main was a hit as the sidewalks were covered in trick or treaters. Here's Mattie. She wasn't too happy here.

Here I was about to chase down Mimi and Laney. They were ahead of Mattie and I.

Oh, she was just so stink'n cute!

Laney went trick or treating with two of her favorite people: Kate, in the black cat suit and Anna Kate, as Strawberry Shortcake. Laney was so happy to be with them, as they held hands walking down the sidewalk.

My mom is there making sure they held hands and didn't run out into the street.

Here's a picture after the trick or treating was overwith. The unbelievable humidity had everyone sweating. Laney was exhausted, Mattie was already screaming and wanting to eat, so unfortunately, I didn't get really good pictures of the girls.

Spider Bite??

Hugh called from work Monday night about how he thought that a spider had bitten him, his leg was incredibly sore, red, and swollen and how he was heading to the seminary doctor today. This is his leg after a lot of the swelling had gone down, which is a good sign that the swelling has gone down, but as you can see, it's still swollen.

The Doc told him he that he needed to go on an antibiotic, keep it elevated, and come back on Thursday for him to look at it. Hugh's been keeping said leg elevated, but when he gets up after it has been elevated, he experiences the most pain when walking. He said the most pain he's ever experienced. We're assuming it's the rush of blood to the area that is so painful.

We called a friend who is very knowledgable in homeopathy, and she told us to do a few things to pull the infection out. I thought I'd share the knowledge.
Make a paste out of baking soda and distilled vinegar.

Apply to wound. Let it dry. Reapply paste.

Soak leg in hot water with 1 cup epsom salt and 1/4 cup baking soda. The hot water also draws out the infection.

Let's hope his antibiotic and these treatments make for a quick recovery for Hugh.

Laney-isms

Hugh and I have been melting to pieces at some of things Laney has been saying here lately. Sometimes we are rolling. I always think to myself that I will totally remember to tell Hugh said story or remember to write it down later, but it amazes me how I can't remember even hours later. Kinda like when Hugh talks in his sleep and how I always think I'll remember to tell him what he said come morning. Nope. I did learn my lesson though and jotted a few things down that she's said in the past week or so.

Conversation #1:
Hollie: Laney, in just a few minutes, we are going to go lay down for our nap.
Laney: I don't want to go lay down.
Hollie: We always take a nap every day. Do you want Mommy to lay down with you?
Laney: No, I want Jesus to lay down with me.

Conversation #2:
Hollie: Laney, here's your snack, your cookies. They are ginger snaps. Mm! Yummy!
Laney: Yeah! I "yove" cookies.
Hollie: Do you want to share some with your babies?
Laney: Yes! (and she goes running back to her babies that were all lined up on the ground taking a nap (see pic in post from a few days ago).
Hollie walks by her room to check on her. Laney looks up with his puzzled, frustrated expression on her face.
Laney: 'Dey don't open 'der moutheses Mommy!! (shaking her head)
Hollie: Oh, (snickering on the inside)...maybe they aren't hungry.
Laney: (emphatically) ELMO'S MOUTH OPEN! (If you have an Elmo, his mouth stays WIDE open. She went over and put a cookie in his mouth.)

Conversation #3: Laney looked up on the fridge and saw a picture of Hugh and Josh Bennett after playing intramural basketball, back in the day when him and Donna lived up here (sniff-sniff).
Laney: "Yook Mommy!" (pointing to the picture way up top) 'Der Daddy!
Hollie: Yep, that's Daddy alright. And who's that? (pointing to Josh)
Laney: Um...um...I don't know.
Hollie: Is that Josh?
Laney: Yes, that's Josh. I want to get in that picture with him. Can I get in that picture Mommy?

Conversation #4:

Laney: Mommy, I have tall hair. I have tall hair Mommy.
Mommy: Oh, you do? (snickering and melting) You have long hair?
Laney: Yeah, I have long hair.
...a few minutes later in the bathtub...Laney dipped the front part of her hair in the water and let it fall over her face.
Laney: Yook Mommy, my hair is tall.

Conversation #5: Hugh was putting Laney down for her nap.
Hugh: Laney, let's pray and then it's time to go to sleep. Jesus....
Laney: No Daddy, I pray!
Hugh: Okay Laney, you can pray.
Laney: Augh. (deep sigh and pause) Dear "Yord"....Daddy, Mommy, Mattie, Laney, Mimi, Papa,...SOOO many people. Amen.

Conversation #6:
Laney: Daddy.....(she went on to tell Hugh a story and then she said...) 'quirls.
Hugh: Laney, I don't know what you're saying Baby.
Laney: Quirls Daddy.
Hugh: What? Say it again...
Laney: (much louder this time) QUIRLS. QUIRLS!!!! QUIRLS DADDY!
Hugh: Baby, I don't know what Quirls are.
Laney: (very frustrated by this point. She huffed and puffed a deep sigh) SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Quirls.
Hugh: Oh! Squirrels!
The funny part comes in when you realize that Laney can't say the "s" sound very clearly and most of the time, she pronounces words as if the "s" was silent, as in this case. The ironic part is that I had a lisp growing up and I could not pronounce my "s" and "ch" sounds correctly. I had to take to go to speech class until fifth grade.

Oh, I just love LOVE LOVE these little memories. If only I could have remembered some of the things that were extremely funny or oozing with sweetness...I'll try better here on out. I don't want to forget these memories.
